The Metronome Club

Blazing with neons lights and the thrum of music, the Metronome Club lights up the night at the edge of the Red Light District.

The Metronome Club, or simply the Metronome, is an enormous nightclub that sits at the edge of the Red Light District. It occupies an entire converted mall and thus is the largest nightclub in the entire city, and sits just barely outside the official Red Light District.

Rave at the Metronome

The Public Face

The brightly lit neon of the Metronome invites one inside. The entrance and parking areas are all brightly lit, rather in contrast with the shadowy park that surrounds it.

Inside one will find the thrumb of music and lights. A bar offers both drinks and food at reasonable (for a nightclub) prices, and discount coffee for designated drivers.

The main floor is gigantic and ever-changing, constantly being rearranged and redecorated to match the event of the night. A converted sports center, it can take the abuse of the most energetic rave effortlessly. The space is large enough that temporary buildings and stages can be set up. The Metronome hosts all sorts of events, from raves to private parties to small conventions.

The landscaping outside is rather extensive. When the defunct mall and several neighboring properties were purchased the new owners worked with the city's new green-space intiative, converting those other properties and the majority of the Malls surface parking into the largest privately owned park in the city. The park includes several small ponds, walking and biking paths and small forest of mixed evergreen and diciduous trees, forming a wall of greenery that makes the Metronome seem almost like it is lost in the wilderness. The park is very popular with those looking for some outdoor sex, as it's density offers countless private areas.

Bouncer

Security: Getting In

The public side of the Metronome Club has a B.A.D. of -4 (100).

The Metronome has two main entrances for the public.

The ground level entrance consists of a row of revolving doors set into a glass wall, each with a bouncer in front to check IDs when the door is unlocked. Getting in is easy, present your ID to the bouncer, who checks it, then pass through the revolving door one at a time. There is a seperate entrance for those in wheelchairs or whom otherwise cannot use the revolving doors.

The underground entrance is well lit, protected by traffic barriers as people queue up to go inside following the same procedure as for the ground level. Beyond the revolving doors are stairs and an escalator up to the main level. Those with mobility issues take the parking garage elevator up to the ground level entrance, which does not go inside the Metronome Club at any stop.

Security is more sophisticated than it may first appear. The bouncers wear shades and have ear pieces, not just for looks and communication, but they also contain a small camera that scans the ID and checks to see if it is valid. Cameras also take photos of everyone entering, with the Metronome Mainframe making note of everything they are bringing in with them. Security operators will flag people for being potentially suspicious and watch them carefully, while also allowing people with fake IDs in if they are otherwise known. There is always at least one hypnotist bouncer on duty to "convince" any would-be theives or investigators to "come quietly".

There are a number of staff entrances; two doors lead to the kitchen area, one to a staff locker room, and a frieght door that opens to a storage room. All are watched by cameras and have a security pad.

Bus

Transport: Getting There

Car

The Metronome is easily accessable by car, with city taxis and Trot drivers coming and going all night through the pickup and drop off area. Surface parking is directly adjactent to the club, though that fills up pretty early most nights. Fortunately the club has extensive underground parking that always seems to have another, deeper level available no matter how many people arrive. The bottomless parking garage has become something of an urban legend among urban explorers of Fur City.

Bus

The Metronome is only on one bus line, the Red Light Bus Line, also known as the "Yiff Bus". The Red Light Bus Line has a dedicated surface stop and for harsh weather a dedicated stop in the underground garage infront of the club entrance, and makes stops all around Fur City and the Red Light Districtruns 24/7. Notably, the RLBL stops at every Yiffy Burger in the city.

There are also unmarked buses run by the Metronome directly that charge no ridership fee and follow no set schedule. These Metronome buses make stops and pickups according to the designs of Metronome leadership.

On Foot

The Metronome is surrounded by broad sidewalks, allowing anyone who wishes to to walk, bike, skate or take whatever means of getting there suits their fancy. Bike racks are scattered around the building, clustered under streetlights. Most foot traffic comes from the Red Light District, though some workers do simply walk from thier jobs in the surrounding commercial and industrial buildings.

The Private Side

Private Area Entrance

Getting Inside & Security

The private side of the Metronome Club has a B.A.D. of -6 (100).

Security is much tighter in the private sections of the Metronome Club.

There are a number of entrances to the private area.

  • The "VIP Lounge-M" is a sumptiously appointed as all the other VIP lounges, but only allows authorized members past and opens to a room that functions as an 'airlock' that traps anyone who thinks they have managed to sneak or trick their way inside.
  • In the parking garage, halfway between the public entrance and the onboarding entrance is a utilitarian steel door labled "Staff Only" which opens to a security checkpoint and then leads into the private area.
  • The "Onboarding Entrance" is a lobby with glass walls and sliding doors that faces a part of the parking garage behind a simple raising arm traffic gate. When open the Onboarding entrance has a secretary visibly at the desk and a security member out of sight. A locked steel roller door blocks the entrance when not in use.
  • The two "Park Entrances" which open directly into the park area are the old food court entrances. These are the physically weakest points, since the doors are the original swinging glass doors now painted over. They are kept locked with security pads and still have a security checkpoint on the other side.
  • The underground tunnels that lead into numerous buildings in the Red Light District. The point where the tunnels converge and enter the Metronome have the same staff only steel door and checkpoint, but the far entrances to the numerous tunnels only have a cameras and door with a security pad (card or code).

Security Office

Metronome Mainframe

The Metronome Mainframe maintains the general database and all the security footage. It also serves as a major node in the Hypno-Net, the heavily encrypted secret internet used by hypnotist society.

The Metronome Mainframe does not normally control the stage lighting, that is usually under the control of the DJ. But the mainframe can cut out the DJ and control the system directly.

The mainframe runs the security AI "Oversight" which is on perpetual watch for suspicious behavior or security breaches on the Metronome grounds and other assigned areas. Oversight only directly communicates with the security staff in the control room, who then communicate with everyone else.

The mainframe also runs the general operations AI "HypnOS" which acts as a general helper on the private side and keeps tabs on all the drones, giving instructions via earpeices or screens. This allows very well coordinated performances by the drone staff. Those who have access to Hypno-Net and appropriate clearance at the Metronome can access HypnOS remotely. This is normally used to arrange for drone services outside the Metronome, or arrange for future events.

Neither AI is sentient.

Breaking In

Breaking into the Metronome is a challenge.

The only exterior ground-level windows are on the public side and in constant view by both staff and guests. Anyone who tries to use the skylights will be greeted by one or more security guards, who have a visible BBQ area set up on the roof next to the stairway roof access. The "security BBQ" is well known amongst the urban explorer community and trying to break in that way is generally dismissed out of hand. While one can climb onto the roof without being seen, it requires avoiding all the ladders and the skylights.

The North Hall & Displays

If you are arriving from the public side staff areas, VIP Lounge-M or the parking garage entrances you will enter the North Hall.

Because most of the North Hall is occupied with security, equipment, storage and various other sundries it is mostly used for various displays of art or hypnotized drones.

The art displays consist of such things as paintings, sculptures, photographs or models. Hypnotized subjects are the most common topic, but anything related to hypnotist society is possible.

Drones on display can be single or in groups, performing or available for use, and are always in the view of no less than 2 cameras and have someone checking them regularly.

The Food Court

The food court still serves it's original function, providing food service and comfortable public dining to patrons. This area also has the two park entrances on opposite sides, though they have security "airlocks" now.

One of the restaraunts is now a Scamper Noms receiving area, with several delivery workers on standby ready to get your order at any time.

This is where the food for both the public and private sides of the Metronome Club is prepared, with the restatunts all having been merged into a massive combined kitchen and food storage area.

Nude, costumed, and uniformed wait staff hustle about, picking up orders for customers and sometimes serving as living furniture to dine on.

The South Hall

The South Hall has similar displays as the North Hall, but also is where you access to the Private Rooms and Scenario Rooms, which are built into the former mall store fronts. These rooms all have windows facing into the hallway so onlookers can watch if the users allow, or can roll down a privacy screen.

Many of the displays are for local businesses. Bolt's Custom Tailoring is quite prolific, often having 2 or 3 different sets of drones showing off his latest designs.

Private Rooms

Private Rooms are exactly what they sound like, private rooms for hypnotists and guests and drones to enjoy themselves. They appear to be well apointed hotel rooms, with bed, couch, chairs, a table and bathroom. They all have a large window that opens into the South Hall which can change from transparent to one-way mirror to opaque with a privacy curtain that can block people from the outside looking in.

Private rooms are not meant to be used as hotel rooms, only being reserved for a few hours at a time. Those who need accomodations are direct to one of the Red Light District's hotels, such as NAME NAME NAME

Scenario Rooms

Scenario Rooms are similar to private rooms, but must be reserved in advance so that they can be prepared for the chosen scenario. These rooms are quite elaborate, with some having been permanently modified for a specific set of scenarios. Scenario rooms have extra staff working behind the sceens to ensure the scenario runs properly and run the equipment. All scenario rooms have an airlock style entrance and video walls.

Scenario rooms include, but are not limited to:

  • The Beach Room: The room has a large pool of water and artifical beach and various other props to simulate a beach. It can simulate everything from a perfefct summer day to a tropical storm.
  • The Artic Room: This room is perpetually kept below freezing and is capable of snowing. A popular scenario here is the "igloo adventure".
  • The Space Room: It can't simulate zero gravity, but it is still popular as it can simulate various scifi adventures.
  • The Ruined City Room: Post-apocalypse survival fantasies are still quite popular.

Nebula Crystal Auctions

Amongst hypnotist society, the Metronome Club is the only place where one can buy new Nebula Crystals. These raw crystals range from tiny specs to fist-sized, and come in every color and hue of the rainbow.

Each year the Metronome Club holds an auction of nebula crystals. Not all of them are new, old stones sometimes find their way here for various reasons, but most are new crystals both raw and cut.

During the auction period hypnotists from around the world flood Fur City and the Red Light District.

Personel

The metronome divides people into three broad groups: Outsiders, Members and Workers

Outsiders

Outsiders covers everyone who is not a Mentronome Club member or workers, including other hypnotists or those otherwise in on the secret. Outsiders can make use of the public side of the Metronome

Terminology: Tourist
A "tourist" is any outsider that makes use of the public side of hypnotist businesses, services, or simply passes through their territory. Hypnotist society discourages bothering or hypnotizing tourists unless absolutely needed without due consideration.

Guests
Guests are outsiders that know about the hypnotist world and can make use of the private side of the Metronome Club while being escourted. Most guests have a post-hypnotic command that prevents them from discussing hypnotist society with other outsiders.

Members

Members have the privilige of entering the private side of the Metronome without an escourt and having access to all it's services. Members can also be workers, with the ability to choose their own work schedule and tasks.

Senior Members
Senior Members are either part of Metronome leadership, former leaders in good standing or are candidates for leadership.

Workers

Workers work at the Metronome Club, performing all the necessary tasks needed to keep things running smoothly. There are two borad categories of workers: Staff and Entertainers.

Staff
Staff do everything from security to run the kitchen and more. The only things staff do not do is directly entertain the members. Staff also deal with tourists on the public side of the Metronome.

Entertainers
Entertainers entertain members and guests. Entertainers are almost always hypnotized while on duty, they do everything from serving drinks to satisfying members fantasies to performing on the stage.

Metronome Jobs

The Metronome offers a variety of paying positions. These are all paying positions with regular or semi-regular hours.

Gofers are general do-everything unskilled workers. The job has minimal pay because room and board is included, covering the Cost of Living expense. They spend their entire work day entranced.

Security staff includes the plain clothes bouncers and those with more obvious security uniforms. While they do receive firearms training with pistols, rifles and shotguns when armed they are normally only armed with batons, tasers and occasionally shields. So far the Metronome has not yet had an emergency that require the use of deadly force. Security will try to minimize use of force, relying on shoving or wrestling the target into submission or off the property before using any sort of weapon.
